LG announces the G Flex smartphone with curved display

Much like what Samsung announced nearly three weeks ago, LG has announced their own smartphone with a [seemingly useless] curved display, called the G Flex. It’s no slouch when it comes to specs, since it packs a Snapdragon 800 quad-core CPU clocked at 2.26GHz, 2GB RAM, a 13MP rear-facing camera, 3,500mAh battery, and of course the 6-inch 720×1280 curved display. In addition, the back of the phone is said to use “self-healing” technology that The Verge says “is designed to get rid of scratches on the phone within minutes.” What’s the purpose of a phone with a curved display? Nobody knows, but LG seems to just be responding to their Korean rival more than anything.
