Available for $44.99 on Amazon is the 5-in-1 power is the Rav Power Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot & Battery Pack. A big feature of the Rav Power is the ability to broadcast a Wi-Fi hotspot. This allows you to use the SD card reader and the USB port on the device to connect removable storage devices, such as USB flash drives and external hard drives. Add to that the integrated 3,000 mAh battery pack, allowing you to charge your devices via the USB port on the front.
On the top are four LED indicator lights, alerting you the status of the battery, drive access status, Wi-Fi status, and whether it’s connected to your network or not.
You access the Rav Power by connecting to its Wi-Fi hotspot, and in the web interface, you can configure the Rav Power as well as access the SD card and USB port.
For its basic functions, the Rav Power is fine, and quite honestly, those alone make it worth your money. A 3,000 mAh battery and a Wi-Fi hotspot with an SD card reader and a USB port? Pretty good all-in-one solution so far.
If you start to use its advanced functions, however, like connecting to your network, things can get bothersome.
Here’s a list of things that I found to be a little odd.
- Wi-Fi hotspot stays on when not in use and charging a device
- Network connection doesn’t always work
- Web interface isn’t user-friendly
- iOS and Android apps (if you can find them) are seemingly third party and “thrown together”
So, aside from the downsides, is the Rav Power worth your money? Absolutely! As I said above, the deal you get is really good even without the advanced features.
