Ever since the release of Windows 8, many users were put off by the fact that the classic desktop interface was first blocked with the “Metro” touch-friendly interface. Although you could still use it by going to the “Desktop” tile, it just seemed unnecessary for the majority of users who don’t wish to use the touch interface whatsoever. Fortunately, Microsoft is looking to at least allow you to skip the Metro screen upon startup, and go right to the desktop. There’s no word on whether or not that they’ll bring back the start menu, although many promising alternatives, such as Start8, are available.
