EA’s launch of SimCity didn’t go off as planned. Not only does this game required an always-on Internet connection, but EA’s own servers couldn’t handle the load at launch. While EA claims that this is because of what their original “vision” of SimCity was to be, but reality says that it’s to prevent pirates from downloading the game without purchasing it. So far, EA is winning, as the game has yet to be cracked for offline-only play. What’s worse is that EA refuses to add an offline mode, despite the game being able to be run once the network connection has been interrupted for up to 20 minutes, which they claim is because it would require massive reengineering.
Fortunately, EA is offering SimCity customers (by March 25 at 11:59PM Pacific) a free game from a very limited selection, all done via Origin.
The list of eligible titles include:
- Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
- Bejeweled 3
- Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
- Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
- Medal of Honor: Warfighter (Standard Edition)
- Need for Speed: Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
- Plants vs. Zombies
- SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition (an excellent game, I might add)
While the list isn’t large, I imagine that Battlefield 3 will be the most popular game from that list.
You can claim your game as soon as this Friday, the 2nd. For more information, hit up the source link below.
