Intel’s next-gen Thunderbolt to double throughput to 20Gbps, adds 4K support

Demoed earlier today at NAB Show, an annual trade show in Las Vegas put together by the National Association of Broadcasters, Intel will soon offer Thunderbolt technology at twice the throughput of today’s generation technology while adding 4K video display support to the mix. For those who don’t know, each megabit of data is worth 125KB/s. Doing the math, 20Gbps support up to 2.5GB/s of bandwidth, which is quite incredible. Production is set to begin in 2014. And yes, it will be backwards compatible with existing Thunderbolt products.
