Microsoft to end support for WP8 and WP7.8 in 2014

If you’re a Windows Phone 7.8 or 8 user, support for those operating systems will end on September 9, 2014 and July 8, 2014, respectively. This means that, once those dates come, devices will no longer receive software updates from Microsoft. This also means that these devices will most likely not see major updates either, such as Windows Phone 9. While not nearly as bad as Android, Apple’s iPhone 3GS is still the oldest smartphone around that receives the latest updates, as it is still supported to this day. As a comparison, only a small handful of initial Windows Phone 7 devices received the 7.8 update.
