2012 was a huge year for Microsoft, and the numbers are rolling in. Windows Phone was launched just a few years ago, and while it’s been slowly gaining ground, 2012 accelerated everything. In 2012 alone, there have been over 75,000 application additions to the Windows Phone Marketplace, more than doubling the size of the Marketplace itself. In terms of just regular updates to apps, there were over 300,000 of them. 2013 is expected to be even bigger for the Redmond giant, and the future success of their mobile phone platform will rely heavily on what they decide to do with Windows Phone 9 (or whatever it ends up being called).
