I think what I should’ve put in my guide (instead of only doing parts 4-9 within step 3 of the tonymacx86 guide — I think) was to do steps 4-9, but to not fully do step 6, as it would erase out Windows and Linux installations.

But yes, there are different steps for UEFI vs. legacy BIOS.

If you take a look at the tony guide, in the steps that you say should be skipped, there are two images: one for BIOS systems and another for UEFI ones. From your description in this guide it seems that at some point there were only steps for BIOS sytems, thus you felt the need to clarify “Keep in mind that we’re running an EFI installation of Yosemite, and not a regular MBR one. You can follow all of the steps in that guide, but stop when you get to step 4. It’s important that you skip parts 1 through 3.” am I wrong in this assumption? Thanks for answering, btw, I know you wrote this a while back and it’s easy to lose track.

I do believe that my instructions should be updated, since after reading them myself, I’m completely lost as to how it relates to what’s mentioned in the tonymacx86 guide.

In regard to EFI vs. BIOS-only systems, where did you see that there are different options depending if you’re install on EFI or BIOS-only?

My theory is that EasyUEFI (not EasyEFI) needed to be used because the UEFI boot list had Linux as its priority. If not, then I’m not sure. Fortunately, the fix was an easy one.

I know, my comment is directed to the quoted sentences. You said to skip a few steps because your guide is directed at EFI capable systems but in the guide you reference there are separate steps for non-EFI and EFI systems.

The easyEFI part is asking if maybe skipping those steps it’s why you needed to use easyEFI to add a few EFI entries later on. Does this help you answer my question?

What do you mean? Clover was what’s used as the bootloader in this build, not EasyEFI.

Doesn’t this need to be updated? It seems that in the guide there are different options selected depending if you are installing on a EFI capable system or BIOS-only. A clarification of this would be helpful. Is it possible that the skipping of this step is the reason why clover didn’t work and easyEFI had to be used?

For the bootable USB, you can use Unibeast. The only catch is that it requires Mac OS X, which you can install within a Windows VMware virtual machine. Unibeast itself is pretty straightforward.
